I’m almost done with the CSV converter, this will let you export and import your database to a CSV file so you can edit it very easily using any text editor, this is very exciting because it will not stop there. I will expand this app more what I mean by that is to make a dedicated webpage with users so you can share your collection and synchronize the app with the online collection, basically having one database that you can look at on any computer or android device.
I hope to finish this update in a couple of days and have an alpha of the webpage by the end of the month. If you have any suggestions or comments please leave a message or send an email.
It was a very packed weekend, so let’s go by parts.
Update 0.11 is finished, I bought a CSV database that has over 26,000 games from a lot of consoles (unfortunately not ALL of them) then I added it to the app, it is not perfectly optimized but I implemented it the best way I could, depending on the device you are using is going to respond faster. First you will have a choose a console and then press the upper-right icon to access the game list from the database.
Also this weekend I played the closed beta for Final Fantasy XIV:ARR and to be honest I was blown away. I will definitely get it on release, I liked the combat system, very fast paced with fluid animations, outstanding music, responsive controls and one of the best character creation tools I have seen on any game (Lalafell’s are adorable!).
And finally we have reached 50+ downloads so far on the Google Play Store! Thank you all for the support and as always if you liked the app please consider donate to keep the servers up and to keep adding more and more features. If you have any suggestions or comments don’t hesitate.
This new update will be live in a couple of hours in the Google Play Store. I added Bar code Scan support, in the Registration screen you can scan the bar code of a game you own and add it’s title automatically, please note that the code needs to be found on the database and this database I do not control it is free for general public use. If you have a code that is not there feel free to add it on www.upcdatabase.org
In another note I’m currently playing Lost Odyssey which to be honest is an amazing game so far, if you are a Final Fantasy fan you cannot miss this game, it has a great story, amazing setting and an amazing OST (from Nobou Uematsu).
It tells the story of Kaim an immortal human being that is slowly recovering his memories, the battle system is simple enough with a battle ring that prompts you to press a button in time for an additional bonus (Kinda like The Legend of Dragoon but with only one input), the graphics are good with some clipping problems here and there, what I didn’t like the most is that the lip-syncing is atrocious. I’m 6 hours in and so far it is a solid game that brings back fond memories of adventuring on the older Final Fantasy titles. Give it a try.
Well after the release of the app I got good feedback and I’m currently working on a few additional features. I’m trying to implement a bar code scanner for easy adding your collection, it is quite a challenge but if everything works out it is going to be a good addition.
If you have any suggestion, comment or question don’t hesitate to contact me.
Finally I released the app on the Google Play Store, with update 0.09 I finished the design and functionality of the app. If you encounter any extra features (a.k.a “bugs”), please let me know.
I’m in no way stoping development of this app and I’m currently designing a couple of new features like Wish Lists, Custom Lists and sorting.
You can download it directly on the Google Play Store in here:
* Main screen is finally done with only two buttons (Add Game and My Collection)
* Added the Settings, Restore, Upload and Stats icons.
* Added Stats screen with information about your collection.
* Removed tools from the main screen (it was added as an option in the settings button on the phone/tablet).
* Fixed to portrait on the main screen and tools screen.
I did minor adjustments for this update, I moved the icons on the main screen and added two place holders. I also added the tool screen with the upload and download buttons (place holders also) both are working.
I still don’t know which information should I display on the “Stats” option, so far I have the complete count of your video game collection, last game played and last game added. I’m really liking the background with the controller for all the screens except the main one, I think I’ll just go with only gray.
* Moved the icons from the main screen and left place holders
* Added the Tools screen with 4 options (Stats, Settings, Upload and Download)
* Upload and Download are back and fully functional (Remember that you need an email).
Again if you have any feedback please let me now! Here you can download the latest APK
In this update I added a background image to almost all of the screens, finally you won’t be seeing that white soulless background, in exchange there is a grey background with a controller. Also I added the info page if you want to know more about the author, if you want to help or have a suggestion. I added the new “Add Game” button which in my opinion doesn’t need a label because it is very intuitive.
I also want to thank everyone who is helping me out testing this app, I appreciate any kind of feedback you guys send me.
Here is a screenshot of a library collection from a friend:
And a screenshot of the new “Add Game” screen with the background
You can download the app in here.
* Set the title to be on one line in “My Collection” list.
* Removed temporarily the Upload and Download buttons.
* Simplified the main screen (final design will be only 3 buttons in the center).
* Added the info screen.
* Added a background image to all the screens.
For this update I did a lot more than the previous one, we have the final version of the icon and logo. Also I started adding Action Bar Icons (just for the moment I’m using the default ones but we are going to design our own). Here is a screen shot showing all available statuses for your game library (background colors and images are still WIP).
* It now shows an error message when you can’t download / upload your collection.
* Updated the app’s icon with the final design.
* Added marquee effect to Last Game(s) played text.
* Fixed an error on Last Game(s) Played showing the Last Game Obtained.
* Removed temporarily the progress bar (Android icon)
* Added some Action Bar Icons (default)
You can download the latest version here or on any link on the website.
The app is finally taking shape, the designer finished the status icons which to be honest are very awesome. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or encounter some dreadful bug.
* Added icons to resource and code.
* Reduced Progress Information to two lines.
You can download it here or head to the VideoGame Logger page.
Before the app was called VideoGame Logger I already had a logo for it, but since I had to change the name I had to change the logo too! So after choosing between 3 prototypes I went with the one that I feel its the more symbolic. Below are the 3 prototype designed by my sister.
